The Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. is composed of twelve regions. The Rocky Mountain Region represents Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas (El Paso). Each of our 16 Chapters has a voice on the Region Board through their Region Representative position. The Region Director sits on the National Board, representing the Chapters’ issues there. A member of any chapter within the Region is also a member of the Region and eligible for all Region benefits.

The Rocky Mountain Region offers a newsletter, “Border To Border”. It is published 4 times per year and is accessible via this website. “Border To Border” includes reports from the Region Director, Committee Chairmen, chapter happenings, calendars of events, the Region teacher listing and many other things.

Opportunities for Rocky Mountain Region members to further their embroidery education begin at the chapter level.  Check out a chapter near you to discover all it has to offer.  RMR sponsors online and/or virtual classes and virtual lectures each year.  In-person Education Events are planned on alternate years.  There is sure to be something for you!

More information on all the items mentioned can be found on this website.

MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR, March 2024

Happy Spring! Much as I found it difficult to switch over to Daylight Savings Time last month, I love the longer daylight hours. My spirits are lifted immeasurably with the promise of green grass, spring flowers, and trees in bloom. I find that at this time of year it is so much easier to be productive. The best thing is that I find more time to stitch each day! I hope you are finding as much pleasure in spring’s promise.

With the arrival of April, EGA is asking its members to begin renewing their memberships online. Please go to https://egausa.org and click on “Join Us.” Follow the instructions to renew with your primary chapter only. You will pay your EGA dues, your region dues and primary chapter dues in the same transaction. Until further notice any plural chapter membership dues, and plural out of region dues, must be paid directly to your plural chapter(s). Life member’s must also pay their primary chapter dues, region dues or plural dues directly to the appropriate chapter.  You may renew April 1 through May 31 and your annual renewal date will remain May 31. You will have the option to set your membership renewal as a recurring payment. Because of this option PayPal cannot be used. However, EGA is accepting payments via credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. While it is preferable for you to pay your dues online, EGA realizes it is not always possible. If this is the case, you may request a membership form to renew and pay by mail. Contact Rand Duren (rduren@egausa.org) or Tonya Parks (typarks@egausa.org) at EGA headquarters if you need help.

I’d like to thank all of our region chapters for sending national required banking information to facilitate online dues payments. This allows for the electronic transfer of chapter dues into each chapter’s bank account. National EGA will deposit chapter dues owed to chapters at the end of the month. During the upcoming April – May renewal period deposits may be made with greater frequency. Usually, chapter membership chairs receive an email from Tonya Parks at EGA Headquarters with new member information whenever someone joins. However, during the April May renewal months membership chairs will receive a spreadsheet from her with renewing and new member information.

During the EGA Board meeting in March the Board of Directors passed a motion recommending that dues remain at the current amounts for all membership levels for 2025. Dues must be reviewed annually by the finance committee, and any change needs to be approved in the year previous to the change. The finance committee will regularly review dues changes for upcoming years. Generally, board members felt that making small increases to yearly dues or every other year is better than making the large increase that was necessary beginning of this year. This general consensus will be passed onto next year’s board.

EGA Administrator Cynthia Welch retired at the end of February. Until a replacement is found for Cynthia, Rand Duren has been named Interim Administrator. In the meantime, Lilly Higgs hours have also been increased to help with the work load.

The recording of the virtual lecture by Laurie Waters, titled An Update on the Northern Museum of Lace is now posted to the region website. You will also find slides used during the lecture in pdf format. I think you will enjoy looking through the pictures and information on the slides at your leisure. The fascinating video and slides will only be available through May 15, so be sure to check them out soon!

On a sad note, Kurt Moses, husband of longtime region board member Jane Moses, father of the region’s immediate past Secretary and Education Chair, Claire Olona and father of Turquoise Trail member, Carolyn Rhodes passed away suddenly. He will be deeply missed.  Please keep these members in your thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

The April issue of Border to Border is scheduled to go out on the fifteenth of the month. Pending region board approval, the new slate of officers will be announced in this issue. Nominations from the floor will be accepted until May 15. Chapter voting begins on May 22, and will close on June 30. The election results will be announced in the July issue of Border to Border.

Best in stitches,

Joanna
