I’m glad you’re here, exploring what Rocky Mountain Region’s next in-person event will include. It’s going to have something for everyone. There will be full day and half day classes you can take. There will be a dedicated room for stitching, so you can bring a UFO to work on or bring something brand new to start. Or you can come hang out with your stitchy friends, without doing any stitching of your own!! There will be fun events in addition to stitching – silent auction, Prospectors exhibit, smalls exchange, and more! Not having been to Boise before, I’m looking forward to exploring the downtown area, a couple of the local museums, and walking in the riverside park, which is right by our hotel.

The Western Idaho Chapter is working with us to provide an exciting weekend in Boise. I have been pumped about it ever since I went to Boise on a site visit and met the local chapter members. Many have been on our planning committee, and are instrumental in providing local information, as well as being at the event to make sure that all participants have a wonderful experience.
The faculty providing the classes have a varied array of projects and techniques to explore. Our open stitching room will encourage people to gather, stitch and visit.
The first night we will gather for a meet and greet with teachers and fellow event attendees. On other days we will have an exhibit, a silent auction and a merchandise night. The hotel has many amenities and several restaurants. Please come explore Boise with us.

The mission of The Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA) is to inspire passion for the needle arts through education and the celebration of its heritage.
Registration begins September 1, and runs thru December 31, 2026.
Gem of A Weekend is open to everyone, RMR members and non-members alike. Register soon and if you plan to stay at the Riverside Hotel, in Boise, Idaho make your reservations early!
The event is sure to be a fun filled weekend of learning and exploring “gems” in embroidery. Participants are sure to find activities that will tap into any interest and skill level. We will have a variety of full and half day classes and an open stitching room.
The Meet and Greet is Thursday night. It will include light nibbles and a cash bar. Come meet some of the teachers, the region board members, the event staff and catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
– Registration fee as a Rocky Mountain Region (RMR) EGA member: $95.
– Registration fee as a Non-RMR EGA member: $105.
– Registration fee as a Non-EGA member: $145.
Registration fees are Non-Refundable.
Registration fees include a Meet and Greet reception, Open Stitching Room, Evening Basque Presentation, entry to Merchandise Night and the Silent Auction.
Class fees are based upon the actual cost of an individual class and the required minimum number of participants. Kit fees are based on the cost of the materials and printed instructions provided. Refer to Class Description sections for specific class and kit fees.
Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Register early to get the classes you want. Classes are size limited based on capacity. Note the number of seats available on the form when you register.
All registrants not staying at the Riverside Hotel or those staying at the hotel with a room rate other than the RMR negotiated rate, pay an additional $100 Facility Use fee. Those not staying at the Riverside Hotel or staying with a different room rate are not considered part of the seminar room block, which contributes toward payment of event and classroom space.

Registration Instructions:
Before going directly to the Registration button, there are a few things we need to bring to your attention. Some of the registration process has changed this year to make it smoother and faster. You will need to first read the next three (3) sections of this page (Full and Half Day Classes, and Additional Items). Make sure you have your EGA Membership number, Chapter and Region names. Members At Large will use ‘MAL’ as their Chapter name. Take note which class(es) you would like to take, if you may be doing the Take Home A Project (THAP) for your chapter, if you need a table (or 2) for Merchandise Night, if you want to sign-up for the RMR Trolley Tour, or would like to attend the RMR Board Luncheon.
Once you click on the ‘REGISTER ONLINE’ button below, you will be taken to another page to fill out all required information on the form. After hitting the ‘Submit Registration’ (in the lower right corner), if it does not take you to a ‘CART’/sub-total screen it is because you had an error in your entry. You may need to scroll up and down to see what and where the error is. After correcting the error, try ‘Submit Registration’ again, and if good, it will take you to the ‘CART’ screen, tally the fees and ask you to chose Paypal for payment. If you register on-line, you will pay through Paypal using either a credit card or your Paypal account. The Credit Card payment button will display below the blue ‘Login’ button on the Paypal screen.
If you change your mind about a selection, after looking at the ‘CART’ screen, you can use the back arrow to go back to your form and make the change(s), and then ‘Submit Registration’ again.
It is not until AFTER you have completed your payment and received a confirmation screen, that you are fully registered. You will also receive a follow-up email with the information. Check your spam folder if you do not see it.
If at any time you need to cancel out of the process (by closing your browser window), you can, but in doing so you will lose what you have entered and have to start from the beginning again to register.
Non-members of EGA, who will not have a member number, may enter ‘None’ on the registration form for EGA Member number, as well as Chapter and Region names. If you have questions, contact the Event Registrar, Teri Harrison at registrar@rmrega.org. Or if you wish to become a member of EGA, click the following link Join EGA and follow the instructions to do so. Then return to this page to register for the event.
NON-SUFFICIENT FUNDS POLICY: Cash, money order, or cashier’s checks shall be required from members who have outstanding, non-collectible, returned checks payable to an EGA chapter, region, or national. All documented returned check expenses associated with NSF checks shall be charged back to the issuer including returned check fee assessed by the bank, all other documented expenses associated with the return check, plus a $25.00 handling fee.
REGISTRATION CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellation requests must be in writing and emailed to the Event Registrar (registrar@rmrega.org) OR mailed to Teri Harrison (Studio One, C/O Teri Harrison, 4619 W. Emerald St. Suite 106, Boise, ID 83706), by Priority Mail with signature confirmation. If emailed, the registrant must follow-up with the event registrar via phone, if not having heard from the event registrar verifying receipt of cancellation email. A full refund, less the non-refundable fee, will be made for cancellations received by March 01, 2027. After March 01, 2027, refunds will be issued only if the cancellation is due to illness or death of a participant or immediate family member, to be approved by the event committee.

Student Code of Conduct – EGA fosters values of honor, mutual respect, cultural sensitivity, integrity, and responsible conduct. Students are expected to behave consistently with these principles, during in-person or virtual classes, displaying common courtesy towards their teacher and fellow classmates. Students will use their best efforts to listen during instruction and will not be disruptive. Students will not unduly monopolize the teacher’s time and attention to the detriment of their fellow classmates. Students will limit contact with the teacher to the classroom or online methods deemed acceptable by the teacher. At the discretion of EGA, students who violate the code of conduct may be asked to leave class and/or the event.

Finishing for Needlework Smalls
Friday, May 14th, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Class fee $85 – Kit fee $60
Class Description: Perfect for stitchers who have unfinished pincushions or needle books. Learn techniques to successfully assemble and finish small pieces like pincushions, fobs, and scissors sheaths. A few patterns are included in the directions.
Kit Contents: Muslin, silk fabric, stranded cotton thread, thread, comic board,
shirtex, seed beads, linen, and other finishing supplies. A text with diagrams and
instructions.
Pre-Work: 4–5 hours of easy pre-work so you can focus on practicing the
finishing stitches during class.
Student Supplies: Basic sewing kit, light and magnification, PVA or Elmer’s
school glue.

Mariposa
Saturday, May 15th, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Class fee $85 – Kit fee $50
Class Description: Description: “Mariposa” is Spanish for butterfly. This class features a Blue Copper butterfly and two white mariposa lilies floating above a silk background.
Students will learn how to create three-dimensional elements using wired stumpwork techniques, and how to finish and mount them on a background fabric.
Kit Contents: Muslin, silk fabric, wire, stranded cotton thread, tissue paper.
Student Supplies: 6-inch hoop or 8 X 8” stretcher bars, 8 X 10” stretcher bars
and tacks, basic sewing kit, light and magnification, PVA or Elmer’s school glue.
Carolyn Standing Webb has been teaching embroidery for over 30 years for her local guild, regional and national seminars, and other groups. She holds a Master Craftsman in counted thread and served as the chairman for that course. She is a recipient of the Golden Needle Award for her contributions to the guild, has designed petite projects, and currently has several correspondence courses available through National EGA.

Debbie Rowley – Garnet Opulence

Class Description: Description: The richness of garnets set in a silver mounting exudes opulence!
Metallic and silk threads highlight the deep burgundy of garnets, placed against a Pewter canvas background (mimicking a silver setting), accented with glass seed beads and bugle beads.
Kit Contents: Canvas with taped edges, all threads, tapestry needles, and
instructions needed to complete the project.
Student Supplies: 2 pairs of 12” stretcher bars, tacks/staples, and
magnification/lighting if needed.
Debbie Rowley – Starburst Square
Saturday, May 15th, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Class fee $85 – Kit fee $100
Class Description: Starburst Square sparkles with a variety of star stitches in gold and silver threads, with added touches of silk floss. The stars radiate from a central point in a brilliant galaxy against the dark blue canvas. Star stitches, both large and small, shimmer together in this appealing project that can be finished as an ornament or other decorative element, a shimmering touch for holiday decorating.
Kit Contents: Canvas with taped edges, threads, including Kreinik metallic
threads, and instructions to complete the project.
Student Supplies: 2 pairs of 8” stretcher bars with tacks or staples, a laying tool,
scissors for fine threads or metallics, lighting and magnification as needed.
Debbie Rowley lives in Elk City, OK, with her husband of 50 years, Rod, and two Shelties, Misty and Spirit. She has two married adult children and four grandchildren. Debbie dreamed of being a writer and received a BA in journalism from Central State University, Oklahoma (now University of Central Oklahoma); she employs that desire to write in her charted instructions. Debbie has stitched for almost 30 years, been in business as DebBee’s Designs for more than 20 years, and a needlework teacher for 15 years. She has published designs in several magazines and publications, including Needle Pointers and Needlepoint Now.

Class Description: Create your very own Stitch Diary. During this daylong class you will learn all the tips and tricks to stitch on perforated paper and start the process of decorating your diary and personalizing it.
Kit Contents: Hand-dyed perforated paper, floss, chart for stitching, notebook, custom frame for perforated paper, ribbon bookmark, and other materials for finishing.
Student Supplies: Basic embroidery supplies (needle and scissors) and
lighting/magnification.
Rebecca Noland –
Tomato Sewing Roll and Strawberry Pin Cushion (All-Day Class)
Saturday, May 15th, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Class fee $85 – Kit fee $70
Class Description: Join Lucy Beam to create your very own Tomato Sewing Roll and Strawberry Pincushion!
During this class, you will learn how to hand-finish this delightful yet practical sewing set. Please note: This class requires pre-stitching. Kits will be mailed to registered students well in advance so you can complete the initial stitching before class.
Your kit includes all pre-stitching materials. The finishing supplies will be provided on the day of the event.
Kit Contents: This class will require prework. For that a kit comprised of linen, thread, needle, chart, and instructions will be mailed ahead to have the stitching completed for the class.
Student Supplies: A tapestry needle, scissors, and your favorite stitching accessories.
Rebecca’s stitching career all started when she was born with a needle in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other…wait, that may or may not be true. Let us fast forward a few years. Rebecca’s grandmother, Lucy Beam, taught me how to embroider when I was a little girl.
This is all her fault. She is now wedded to a needle and thread. She has always loved working with thread, fabric, yarn, anything she could make stick together. Her grandmother did too.
She would take Rebecca to the local factory in their tiny town of Wewoka, Oklahoma, where they sewed various and sundry things. They would sneak behind the building to where the dumpsters were. “Now Becky, grab that pile over there” she would whisper as she grabbed my ankles and lowered me headfirst into the depths. I was a small child and ideal for this sort of situation. Those are some of my favorite memories of her.

Class Description: Description: Learn how to make a covered tape measure. Put the entire project together except for the stitched top which you can do later after stitching it.

Vicky Hays – Introduction to Slow Stitching
Sunday, May 16th, 8:30 – 11:00 am
Class fee $30.00 – Kit fee $20
Class Description: Description: Focuses on mindful, creative, meditative processes. This all-levels class covers Sashiko, crazy quilting, and English paper piecing, with other embroidery techniques explored as time allows. Participants will create a needle book and will have the opportunity to gather other materials from shared resources.
Kit Contents: Contents: Fabric base, batting, needles, templates, pearl cotton, instructions, polka dot fabric, cardstock hexagon, denim piece, sashiko and embroidery needles, glue stick, Gem of a Weekend label, and a zipper pouch.
Student Supplies: Basic embroidery supplies (favorite fibers, small hoop, fabric scissors, and embroidery scissors).
Vicky Hays has been embroidering for decades and has taught many, including her mother in counted work, children, grandchildren, and others, in embroidery techniques and finishing. This is her first region teaching event, and she is excited to share slow stitching with the participants.
Teresa Huester –
Sweets for the Sweet: Soft Sculptured Candies
Sunday, May 16th, 8:30 – 11:30am
Class fee $30 – Kit fee $10
Class Description: Description: This is a fun class for both beginner and experienced embroiderers in which the participant will learn how to make small soft sculptured candies with embroidered and embellished elements. Made from fabric and thread, these soft
sculptures are so realistic in appearance, you’ll have to make sure your family
and friends don’t try to eat them.
Kit Contents: Sewing thread, assorted embroidery threads, assorted beige,
brown and white fabrics, assorted ribbons, trims, sequins, and polyester stuffing.
Student Supplies: 4” embroidery hoop and basic embroidery/stitching kit.
Hailing originally from Louisiana and the Shreveport Rose Chapter, Teresa Huester has been a member of EGA since 1985. She has taught multiple classes in goldwork, stumpwork, and surface embroidery at the chapter and regional levels since 1995. She has also acted as a mentor in surface embroidery at the regional level for Pacific Southwestern Region and Rocky Mountain Region stitching retreats.
“Take Home A Program” (THAP)
Rocky Mountain Region (RMR) is pleased to present a new opportunity for Gem of a Weekend participants to “Take Home A Program” to share with their home chapter.
Here’s how it works:
We will present a chapter program to one representative from each chapter in the region. We will teach you how to present the program, supply you with instructions and materials for stitching and finishing, and answer your questions as you stitch and finish the project. We’ll also be available by email to answer questions when you present the program to your chapter.
RMR Education is sponsoring the THAP course, so there is no teaching or materials fee.
Here’s the fine print:
The first person from each chapter to sign up for the THAP at registration will be the only person from that chapter in the course. You will go home with a project to stitch and finish and keep for yourself–for free. You will commit to finishing the project and presenting the program to your chapter within one calendar year. You will also be greatly appreciated by your Programs Chair when you arrive home with a readymade program to fill out the chapter calendar!
Here’s the project:
As our inaugural THAP, we will present a Petite Project from the EGA website: Purple Mountain Majesty, designed by Laurel Knapp. This beginner-level project will consist of Bargello (Florentine stitch) on canvas, how to make cording trim, and will be finished into a toolkit tin. The Rocky Mountain Region would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Mid-Atlantic Region for allowing us to use the idea they originated and perfected over a couple of decades of successful THAP courses.

Boise Trolley Tour
Boise Trolley Tours offers fun, entertaining, and educational tours of Boise, Idaho. They specialize in historical, sightseeing, and holiday-themed excursions, perfect for locals, tourists, families, corporate events, and weddings. The trolleys provide a unique and relaxing way to explore Boise’s landmarks, culture, and history, with knowledgeable guides leading the way.
The committee has arranged to make a designated tour for our event. The cost for the Trolley Tour is $15 per person.
It will leave from our hotel (The Riverside Hotel) and is scheduled for Thursday, May 14th, at 4:00 pm and lasts 1-2 hours.

Room rates for Gem of a Weekend are $198/night (double occupancy) with complimentary breakfast.
Reservations can be made from September 1, 2026 – April 12, 2027.
Room rates are available from May 12 – May 16, 2027, so consider arriving early in Boise to get a jump on the weekend.
King and Queen beds are available.
There are no parking fees at the hotel.

There is a free shuttle to and from the airport as well as local sites. Please call the hotel and/or contact the front desk to set this up.

Riverside Hotel Reservations
If you want to call to make reservations instead of using the link provided you need to state that you are part of the Rocky Mountain Region EGA to get the event rate.
If you should need to cancel your reservation:
One can cancel your reservation, without penalty, up to 24 hours prior to arrival.
But we ask please do not contact the hotel directly to cancel.
Instead, contact our Registrar at registrar@rmrega.org. We will then cancel the room for you, with the cancellation confirmation being sent to you. This process will keep the room within our RMR room block and can thus be made available to another registrant at our group rate. If you cancel directly with the hotel, the room will not stay within our block.

Would you like to have an opportunity to receive a small, finished needlework piece for free? Join our Gem of a Weekend Smalls Exchange – contribute a piece and get one in return.
Rules for Smalls Exchange
1. Create a 5”x7” or smaller picture, pin cushion, biscornu, scissor fob, etc.
2. The item must be a stitched needlework – cross stitch, embroidery, punch needlework, hardanger, etc. Any design or theme works.
3. Item must be completed and fully finished.
4. Put it in a gift bag. You may remain anonymous or include your name if you would like.
5. Bring to registration at Gem of a Weekend. Turn-in anytime during Registration.
6. Draw a number on Saturday afternoon and pick up your exchange gift.

Prospectors Exhibit
The Prospectors Exhibit is a display of Needle-Art put on at in-person Rocky Mountain Region events.
RMR members and non RMR participants are encouraged to exhibit their pieces, either original or adaptations.

Idaho Botanical Garden Ambassadors offer a free hour-and-a-half-long tour of the grounds. This walk introduces you to the history of the Garden and the major features of the grounds. No need for reservations; arrive 15 minutes before the tour start time. Garden tours run every other Thursday and Saturday morning. Tours start at 10am and last for approximately an hour and a half. Please call to confirm the date you’d like to visit.

The Old Idaho Penitentiary State Historic Site was a functional prison of 510 acres from 1872 to 1973 in the western United States, east of Boise, Idaho. It was added to the National Registry of Historical Places on July 17, 1974.

Rocky Mountain Region Annual Board Meeting
The Region Board Meeting will be on Thursday May 13, 2027 from 9 am – 2:30 pm.
RMR Board Meetings are open to any EGA member, whether living in the region or not. Join us if you are interested in learning more about the business of the region board.
The board luncheon is scheduled for Noon – 1:30 pm. (no cost to board members). Guests are welcome at the board meeting and at the luncheon, but must pay for their lunch ($30). If you’d like to attend the luncheon as a guest, make sure you sign up when you register for Gem Of A Weekend.
