The Rocky Mountain Region (RMR) supports our EGA national educational goals and opportunities. RMR specifically provides support for region chapters and members as they enhance their embroidery skills and appreciation for the needle arts. We do so by offering region members free or reduced cost lectures and virtual classes each year. We also sponsor periodic in-person events which include classes, lectures, tours, and/or stitching time, in an enjoyable atmosphere. Region activities and events are open to all RMR members and may also be open to other EGA members or non-members, depending on the event.
Numerous educational embroidery and embroidery related activities, including classes and lectures, are available through National EGA. Information can be found on the national website: National EGA website.

India Hayford – Lecture “Observation for Visual Artists”
Thur. April 23, 2026 at 7 pm MDT
Good design is the result of intense observation of the visual world. In this course, students will learn the difference between accurately observing the visual world verses allowing the intellectual mind to process visual information into a series of symbols. Following a virtual lecture on creative observation, students will follow a series of exercises that increase their powers of observation. In the process, students will explore and defeat the limiting mythology of creative right brain verses analytical left brain, and who can be an artist and who cannot.
Karen Bovard-Syre – Lecture: “Introduction to Needle-Made Lace”

This virtual lecture is structured to guide participants through the core concepts of (1) the specific techniques that define needle-made lace. The lecture will define and describe “what various styles/types of lace and ways lace is created along with exploration of different types of needle-made lace through history including how needle-made lace has evolved from embroidery techniques and will include an introduction on the basics of how to work needle-made lace.
Jennifer Riefenberg – Lecture “Changing Colors in a Design”

How do you choose when changing colors in a design? What do I need to watch out for? These are often questions asked when you would like your piece to be a bit different—maybe you prefer a different color scheme, or just want to change up a few things in the piece. This lecture presents many examples and ways that you may consider changing your colors—and that there are many right ways to do so.
Annette Gutierrez Turk – Lecture “Colcha embroidery”

Colcha Embroidery is a form of embroidery. This Powerpoint presentation will discuss the significance the embroidery was to the Spanish settlers in New Mexico. It will include both old and new examples of the embroider.
Annette Gutierrez Turk – half day class: “Autumn Leaves”
October 25, 2026 at 1 pm MDT.
Autumn Leaves is a historical motif designed by teacher on which colcha embroidery will be taught. A color scheme will be provided and students will provide their own materials from a provided materials list. The materials are easy to obtain (Floba 14 ct and 8 yard hanks of needlework wool.
