Welcome

The Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. is composed of twelve regions. The Rocky Mountain Region represents Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas (El Paso). Each of our 16 Chapters has a voice on the Region Board through their Region Representative position. The Region Director sits on the National Board, representing the Chapters’ issues there. A member of any chapter within the Region is also a member of the Region and eligible for all Region benefits.

The Rocky Mountain Region offers a newsletter, “Border To Border”. It is published 4 times per year and is accessible via this website. “Border To Border” includes reports from the Region Director, Committee Chairmen, chapter happenings, calendars of events, the Region teacher listing and many other things.

Opportunities for Rocky Mountain Region members to further their embroidery education begin at the chapter level.  Check out a chapter near you to discover all it has to offer.  RMR sponsors online and/or virtual classes and virtual lectures each year.  In-person Education Events are planned on alternate years.  There is sure to be something for you!

More information on all the items mentioned can be found on this website.

MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR, October 2024

Happy Halloween Stitching! Pumpkins, autumn leaves, ghouls and goblins call out to be stitched. In fact, fingers twitch to stitch a colorful witch, not to mention brooms, black cats and bats. No matter where your stitching journey leads you this month, I hope it’s “spooktacular!”

Region Web Liaison, Deb Ogden has been doing an excellent job of keeping the region website up to date. I hope you have taken a look at the new page she created called “RMR Past Happenings.” You will find some pictures posted from Education Santa Fe. Deb will be adding more pictures as they become available. She and region Documents Chair, Patty Coughlin will also be working toward updating the Forms and Manual section after the region board meetings in mid-October. They aim to make region documents and information easier to find.

Pikes Peak Chapter reported in the chapter’s newsletter that its Facebook page is doing very well. They have over one thousand followers in 10 countries! The posts have been shared around the world by past teachers, other chapters, national and region Facebook chairs as well as individual followers. They post fine examples of members beautiful needlework, pictures of from chapter classes with national teachers, stitch in public days and much more. Obviously, people love seeing the chapter’s posts.

Turquoise Trail, Sandia Mountains, Colorado, Foothills chapters and RMR also have Facebook pages. If your chapter doesn’t have a Facebook page, consider starting one. If I missed mentioning your chapter’s page let me know about it, and I will mention it in my next letter. By keeping your pages current, posting interesting chapter activities and examples of your members beautiful stitching you not only let people know about your vibrant chapter, but you help get the word out about EGA.

Kathleen Weston from Turquoise Trail Chapter is EGA’s Virtual Education Course Chair. I hope you are keeping an eye on these EGA courses. Talented teacher and designer Carolyn Standing Webb from Wasatch Chapter is scheduled to teach her design “Queen Catherine’s Book Cover, Bag and Pyn Pillow next year. Registration opens on February 1, 2025.

Another RMR member, Kathy Melville from Midland Empire Chapter volunteered to be the region’s candidate to the National Nominating Committee. She was elected by the board of directors following the Annual Meeting. Kathy has been a dedicated volunteer both in the region and for national EGA, most recently serving as EGA Secretary. Thanks, Kathy!

I have been asked me to share some information with you by Donna Pence, Mid-Atlantic Region Director. Many of you are aware of the annual Needlework Show held at Woodlawn, in Alexandria Virginia. Next year the show will recognize the 50th anniversary of Nelly’s Needlers, a volunteer organization whose mission is to further appreciation of the needle-arts. They are asking for help to achieve their goal of having entries in the show from all 50 states. They accept entries stitched with a hand threaded needle. Everyone is welcome to enter this professionally judged, but not juried exhibit. Visit www.woodlawnpopeleighey.org/nwshow25 for registration details and further information. EGA members will receive $2 off their first entry in the show by using the code WNL25. Registration runs from Nov. 9, 2024 – Feb. 2, 2025.

Thanks and Happy Stitching!

Joanna
